Set in a broad green area full of trees and flowers in the Pau da Lima district of Salvador, Mansão do Caminho is one of the most moving and inspiring places in Brazil. Founded in 1952 by Divaldo Pereira Franco and Nilson de Souza Pereira, the institution combines the purity of the Spiritist ideal with one of the largest community charity, education and health programmes in Latin America.
For travellers arriving in Bahia in search of serenity and reflection, visiting this living monument to dedication to others is a transformative experience that stays in the memory for ever.
How the visit to the complex works
Mansão do Caminho welcomes visitors and caravans with great warmth, keeping to a simple protocol so that the tranquillity of the students and patients it serves is always preserved:
- Location: Rua Jayme Vieira Lima, 104, in the Pau da Lima district (postcode CEP 41236-720). It is very important to check the postcode in map apps, as there is another street with the same name in the city.
- Free guided visits: These take place on set days (usually Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, and Wednesdays in the morning). Visitors walk through the school areas, the nursery, the bakery and the historic areas over a pleasant tour of approximately 4 hours.
- Doctrinal talks: The Cenáculo hosts weekly public meetings with moral talks and passes fluídicos (Spiritist fluidic passes) on several days of the week, with no prior booking required.
The Centenary event in May 2027
It is worth remembering that the main commemorative tribute marking one hundred years since the birth of Divaldo Franco (the congress O Semeador de Estrelas) will be held at the modern Centro de Convenções Salvador, on the seafront at Praia da Armação, about 20 km from the airport and easy to reach for those staying in the coastal hotels.
