Love, marriage and family ties are the primary setting in which we learn to conjugate the word fraternity. In the chapter on the Law of Reproduction in O Livro dos Espíritos (The Spirits' Book), Allan Kardec examines the nature of affective bonds with clarity, explaining that the union between beings goes far beyond biology: it is the reunion of souls seeking mutual improvement.
Far from rigid conventions, Spiritism shows that the family is a sanctuary of reconciliation, affection and spiritual growth, where differences are harmonised through patience and love.
The union of beings and marriage
When Kardec asks the spirits about marriage, the answer is emphatic: a stable union based on sincere affection is progress in the march of humanity. Conjugal ties help beings overcome selfishness, sharing joys, responsibilities and challenges.
The work stresses that true marriage is the one founded on spiritual sympathy and moral reciprocity, not on mere material interests or passing social impositions.
Understanding celibacy
Kardec also addresses the subject of celibacy with delicacy. Spiritism teaches that renouncing married life has no merit in itself when it stems from mere selfishness or a wish to avoid family obligations. It becomes meritorious, however, when it is the fruit of selfless dedication to relieving the suffering of others and carrying out humanitarian works of great scope.
The family as the soul's workshop
Children do not arrive in a family by chance. In the light of reincarnation, the home is the meeting point of spirits who have already walked together in the past, bringing affinities to be cultivated or old disagreements that find in maternal and paternal love the sacred balm of forgiveness and reconciliation.
Raising a child is, for that very reason, the highest mission entrusted to a human being: preparing a companion for the journey towards an ethical life and the service of good.
Travelling with family and new friends
At Mundo a Passeio, we see every day the comforting power of bonds of affection. Whether they are couples celebrating decades of companionship, children taking their elderly parents on a day out, or fraternal friends meeting aboard our coaches, travelling together is one of the most beautiful ways of celebrating life and love.
